Kochi .Kerala-based writer Vinayak Nirmal has been selected for the esteemed J. Maurus Award for his thought-provoking book, Vaidhavyam (Widowhood), published by Pavanatma Publishers under Atma Books. This recognition honors Nirmal’s profound exploration of the often-overlooked experiences of those navigating life after loss.

Vaidhavyam, presents a poignant portrayal of the emotional and social journey of individuals who have lost their spouses. Through masterfully crafted narratives, Nirmal sheds light on the realities of widowhood, examining the challenges faced by widows and offering practical solutions for empowerment.

The J. Maurus Award, established by the Society of St Paul (SSP) in collaboration with the Indian Catholic Press Association (ICPA), recognizes outstanding contributions to literature that address social issues. This year’s award honors Nirmal’s sensitivity and ability to evoke both introspection and broader societal reflection.

Vinayak Nirmal is a renowned author with over 100 books to his credit, published by leading publishing houses in Kerala. With a writing career spanning over three decades, he has worked as the Senior Editor of Sunday Shalom and currently contributes as a freelance journalist and writer. His work explores the intersections of personal and societal issues, offering readers a thoughtful perspective on life’s challenges and triumphs.

The J. Maurus Award will be conferred upon Vinayak Nirmal during the 29th National Convention of Christian Journalists, organized by ICPA, scheduled to take place in Mangalore, Karnataka on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
