The Optional Memorial of Our Lady of Loreto was added to the universal liturgical calendar in 2019 by Pope Francis.

The title comes from the legend of the Holy House of Loreto, the house in which Mary was born and in which the Word was made flesh at the Annunciation. Tradition says that the little house was scooped up by a band of angels from the Holy Land, and transported to Tersato, Dalmatia in 1291, from where it was moved to Recanati, Italy in 1294, and finally to Loreto, Italy where it has been for centuries. This translation of the Holy House and the longstanding structure might be the reason for Our Lady of Loreto being the patron of builders, construction workers, and aviation.

For the feast of Our Lady of Loreto, we are remembering the Blessed Virgin Mary in this Holy House, where the Immaculate Conception and Incarnation both occurred.

O Holy Mother of God, Our Lady of Loreto, pray to your Son, to bring us all safely to our destination here on earth and to our final home in heaven. Amen.
