We go to church to worship God together with other Christians, and to have fellowship, or friendship, with them. Church is a special, quiet place away from our busy lives where we can concentrate on learning more about our Heavenly Father and how to please him.
You probably have a lot in common with your friends…you like the same things or participate in the same activities. Going to church is a way to worship God together with others who share the same faith you do. The Bible tells us fellowship with other Christians is important.
We need each other! Galatians 6:2 tells us to “bear one another’s burdens.” This means to share our problems with each other. We want to help our friends through difficult times by giving them love, support, and encouragement. It is also a blessing to study God’s word by teaching and learning together. Did you know we don’t need a fancy building to worship our Heavenly Father?
Some Christians around the world meet in their homes or other simple buildings where they can gather and study together. In Matthew 18:20, Jesus says that where two or three are gathered, He will be there! No matter where where you worship, it’s always appropriate to pray to God anywhere – outside surrounded by the natural wonders He created, in your house, or even if you’re riding in a car. You can praise Him out loud or silently in your heart.
If you’re with other Christians and want to pray or sing hymns together, that’s good too!
