Appointment of Eparchial Finance OfficerBishop Bosco Puthur has appointed Dr. Jonson George as the finance officer for the Syro-Malabar eparchy of St. Thomas the apostle, Melbourne
The Finance Officer is primarily responsible for all financial matters of the Eparchy, who advises the bishop and eparchial team on all relevant financial issues.Bishop Bosco said, “Dr Johnson George will be an outstanding addition to the eparchy administration. He brings a wealth of expertise, experience, and a solid grounding in the Catholic faith. With the appointment, Dr. Johnson George will become the first layperson to serve in a key finance administrative position in the eparchy, perhaps the first in the entire Syro- Malabar church”.Dr. Johnson George is married with three children who belong to the St Alphonsa Cathedral parish since 2012. He is an Associate Professor at Monash University’s Centre for Medicine Use and Safety and has held a tenured Teaching & Research position since 2007. He has completed a Master of Pharmacy (1999 – MGR Medical University), Post Graduate Diploma in Operations Management (2001 – IGNOU), a PhD (2005 – Monash University), and Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (2008 – Monash University). He is the Graduate Coordinator for the Centre for Medicine Use and Safety, an Associate Editor of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and Monash University’s Academic Board member.
Since 2019 he has served as the Finance Committee Convener of the St Alphonsa Cathedral Parish Melbourne and as a member of the Building Executive Committee. Johnson also serves as the Secretary and as one of the Directors of the Cathedral Syro-Malabar Cultural Centre.
