1950 ജൂലൈ 25-ന് അന്നത്തെ പാലാ മുട്ടുചിറ, കുറവിലങ്ങാട്, ആനക്കല്ല്, രാമപുരം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ ഫൊറോനകൾ ഉൾപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന പ്രദേശത്തിന് പുറത്ത് ചങ്ങനാശേരിയെ വിഭജിച്ച് പന്ത്രണ്ടാമൻ പയസ് മാർപാപ്പ പാലാ എപ്പാർക്കി രൂപീകരിച്ചു.
അന്നത്തെ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ അപ്പസ്‌തോലിക് ന്യൂൺഷ്യോ ആർച്ച് ബിഷപ്പ് ലിയോ പി കീർക്കൽസ് , പുതിയ എപ്പാർക്കിയുടെ ആദ്യ ബിഷപ്പായി സെബാസ്റ്റ്യൻ വയലിലിനെ നിയമിച്ചു. 1951 ജനുവരി 4-ന് പാലായിലെ സെൻ്റ് തോമസ് കത്തീഡ്രലിൽ വച്ച് അപ്പോസ്‌തോലിക് ഇൻ്റർന്യൂൺഷ്യോ ആയ ലിയോ പി കീർക്കൽസ് ബുൾ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കുകയും പുതിയ എപ്പാർക്കിയുടെ ആദ്യ ബിഷപ്പായി സെബാസ്റ്റ്യൻ വയലിലിനെ നിയമിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. 1956 ആഗസ്ത് 22-ന്, എ.പി. കോൺസ്റ്റ് ‘റെഗ്നം കോലോറം’ ചങ്ങനാശേരിയുടെ എപ്പാർക്കിയെ ഒരു ആർക്കിപാർക്കി പദവിയിലേക്ക് ഉയർത്തുകയും പുതിയ സഭാ പ്രവിശ്യയായ ചങ്ങനാശേരി രൂപീകരിക്കുകയും പാലായിലെ എപ്പാർക്കി അതിൻ്റെ വോട്ടർമാരിൽ ഒന്നായി മാറുകയും ചെയ്തു. മാർജോസഫ് കല്ലറങ്ങാട്ട് ആണ് നിലവിൽ എപ്പാർക്കി ബിഷപ്പ്.
മാർ ജേക്കബ് മുരിക്കൻ 2012-ൽ സഹായ മെത്രാനായി നിയമിതനായി. 2022-ൽ, സഹായ മെത്രാൻ സ്ഥാനം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് സന്യാസിയായി ജീവിക്കാൻ സീറോ മലബാർ ബിഷപ്പുമാരുടെ സിനഡിൻ്റെ അംഗീകാരം ലഭിച്ചു .

The Golden Jubilee celebrations came to a close on 04 January 2001 with a solemn Concelebrated Holy Qurbana and a public meeting.

The 31st Plenary Assembly of Catholic Bishop’s Conference of India (CBCI) was hosted by the Eparchy from 5 to 12 February, 2014 at Alphonsian Pastoral Institute, Arunapuram, Palai. The theme of this biennial assembly was “Renewed Church for a Renewed Society – Responding to the Call of Second Vatican Council”. The week long event was officially inaugurated by Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Salvatore Penacchio with Holy Mass followed by the Public Meeting on Wednesday, 5 February. A Civic Reception for the assembling ecclesiastical dignitaries was also given at St. Thomas College Ground, Arunapuram on Saturday, 8 February. On Sunday 9 February the participating Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops also visited parishes like Pala Cathedral, Aruvithura, Cherpunkal, Kuravilangadu, Muttuchira and Ramapuram, and other centres such as Mannanam and Vadavathoor Seminary. Also the Eparchy hosted an Evening Fellowship – Agape on Monday 10 February at the Bishop’s House to honour the Episcopal Dignitaries and Invited Guests and 150 people representing a cross section of the disadvantaged. On Tuesday 11 February, the ecclesiastical dignataries made pilgrimage to the Tomb of Saint Alphonsa at Bharananganam and celebrated Holy Mass at the Shrine.

An extra ordinary Mission Seminar in connection with Mission Month – October was inaugurated by His Beatitude Moron Mor Baselios Cardianl Cleemis Catholicos, Major Archbishop of the Syro Malankara Church. The seminar was led by Mar Prince Panengadan, Bishop of Adilabad and attended by the priests, the religious and representatives from the parishes.
