സിറോ മലബാർ സഭാ ചങ്ങനാശേരി രൂപതാംഗമായ മോൺസി‌ഞ്ഞോർ ജോർജ് കൂവക്കാടിനെയാണ് കർദിനാളായി വത്തിക്കാനിൽ നടന്ന ചടങ്ങിൽ ഫ്രാൻസിസ് മാർപ്പാപ്പ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്. സ്ഥാനാരോഹണം ഡിസംബർ 8ന് നടക്കും, 20 പുതിയ കർദിനാൾമാരെയാണ് വത്തിക്കാൻ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്. നിലവിലെ വത്തിക്കാനാൽ മാർപ്പാപ്പയുടെ ഓദ്യോഗിക സംഘത്തിൽ അംഗമാണ് നിയുക്ത കർദിനാൾ.

Pope Francis announces a consistory for the creation of 21 new Cardinals from around the world to be held in the Vatican on 8 December 2024.

Pope Francis announced after his Sunday Angelus that he would hold a Consistory for the creation of new Cardinals on 8 December 2024, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, in the Vatican.
The Consistory, set to take place with representatives from all over the world, will fall before the opening of the 2025 Jubilee of Hope and after the conclusion of the Second Session of the Synod on Synodality in the Vatican.
The Cardinal-elects hail from around the world.

We are immensely thankful to the Lord for this moment of joy as our dear Msgr George Koovakad is raised to the rank of Cardinals. A proud son of the Archeparchy of Changanacherry, he joined the Vatican Diplomatic service in 2006. He served the Apostolic Nunciatures in Algeria, South Korea, Iran, Costa Rica and Venezuela. From 2020, he has been working at the Vatican State Secretariate, as the in-charge of the Papal travels around the world.
It is exceptional that a priest is elevated Cardinal. At least in the Indian Church, it is history. Msgr George deserves it as he is a man of spiritual integrity and faithfulness to the Church. 51 year old new cardinal will be a dynamic presence in the universal church.
He will be created cardinal at the Consistory to be held on 8th of December at St. Peter’s Basilica. Before that, he needs to be ordained Bishop. Blissful days are ahead. Thank God! Your Eminence, your mother Archeparchy is proud of you and thanks our Lord for this immense gift.

മോൺ. ജോർജ് കൂവക്കാട് മമ്മൂട് ലൂർദ്‌മാതാ ഇടവക കൂവക്കാട് ജേക്കബ-ത്രേസ്യാമ്മ മകനായി 1973 ആഗസ്റ്റ് 11 ന് ജനിച്ചു. കുറിച്ചി സെൻ്റ് തോമസ് മൈനർ സെമിനാരി, ആലുവ സെൻ്റ് ജോസഫ് പൊന്തിഫിക്കൽ മേജർ സെമിനാരി, റോമിലെ മാത്തർ എക്ലേസിയ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ വൈദിക പഠനം പൂർത്തിയാക്കി. 2004 ജൂലൈ 24 ന് മാർ ജോസഫ് പവ്വത്തിൽ പിതാവിൽനിന്ന് പൗരോഹിത്യം സ്വീകരിച്ചു. എസിബി കോളേജിൽ നിന്ന് ബിഎസ് സി ബിരുദവും റോമിൽനിന്ന് കാനൻ ലോയിയിൽ ഡോക്ടറേറ്റും നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. പാറേൽ സെൻ്റ് മേരീസ് പള്ളിയിൽ അസി. വികാരിയായി ശുശ്രൂഷചെയ്‌തു. തുടർന്ന് 2006 മുതൽ വത്തിക്കാൻ നയതന്ത്രകാര്യാലയത്തിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്‌തുവരുന്നു. അൾജീരിയ, സൗത്ത് കൊറിയ, ഇറാൻ, കോസ്റ്റാറിക്ക എന്നീ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലെ നയതന്ത്ര ശുശ്രൂഷകൾക്കുശേഷം 2020 മുതൽ ഫ്രാൻസിസ് പാപ്പായുടെ വിദേശയാത്രകളുടെ ചുമതലയുള്ള സ്‌റ്റേറ്റ് നയതന്ത്ര ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായി ശുശ്രൂഷ നിർവഹിച്ചു വരവെയാണ് പുതിയ നിയമനം. കഴിഞ്ഞ വിശുദ്ധവാരത്തിൽ അദ്ദേഹം മാതൃഇടവകയായ മമ്മൂട്ടിലും മറ്റ് ഇടവകളിലും തിരുകർമ്മങ്ങൾക്കു നേതൃത്വംനൽകുകയും അതിരൂപതാഭവനത്തിൽ സന്ദർശനം നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
പുതിയതായി നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ട 21 കർദിനാൾമാരുടെയും നിയമനം ഡിസംബർ 08 ന് വത്തിക്കാനിൽ നടക്കും. മോൺ ജോർജ് കൂവക്കാടിൻ്റെ മെത്രാഭിഷേകം അതിന് മുമ്പായി നടത്തപ്പെടും കർദ്ദിനാളായി ഉയർത്തപ്പെടുന്നതോ മാർപ്പായെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്ന കർദിനാൾ സംഘത്തിലെ ഒരംഗമായി മോൺ. ജോർജ് കൂവക്കാട് മാറുകയും ആഗോള കത്തോലിക്കാസഭയിൽ സുപ്രധാന ചുമതല വഹിക്കുന്ന വ്യക്തിയായി തീരുകയും ചെയ്യും.
