Kochi: The Indian Catholic Press Association (ICPA), one of the oldest Catholic press organisations in Asia, is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee celebrations at John Barrett Nagar—Ashirbhavan Complex, Kacheripady, Ernakulam—from September 22 to 24.
Justice Devan Ramachandran of the Kerala High Court will inaugurate the three-day celebrations that include a national convention deliberating on ‘Journalism Under Duress: Mission to Speak Truth to Power’, the 59th Annual General Body and an award function.
ICPA is a pan-India organisation that comprises journalists, journalism teachers and publishers. “Around 100 delegates from across the country and specially invited guests, including media students, will take part in the convention on September 23,” said ICPA President and veteran journalist Ignatius Gonsalves.
The inaugural session on September 22nd evening will be addressed by Archbishop Joseph Kalathiparambil of Verapoly, Hibi Eden MP, Bishop Henry D’Souza of Bellary, Ecclesiastical Advisor to ICPA, and Dr Milan Franz, Principal, St Xavier’s College, Aluva.
The panellists of the convention on September 23 include R Rajagopal, Editor, The Telegraph; Advocate Dr Sebastian Paul, journalist and former MP; and Leena Reghunath, Editor-in-Chief, Supreme Court Observer. Noted human rights activist and author Fr Cedric Prakash SJ will be the moderator. Author and Director of Loyola Institute of Peace and International Relations Fr Dr Binoy Pichalakkattu SJ is also among the panellists. A book containing inputs from the resource persons as well as attending delegates and other media experts will be released during the event.
Authors among members will be honoured on the occasion. The award ceremony will be inaugurated by Justice Sunil Thomas, Judicial Member of the Central Administrative Tribunal. The award winners are veteran journalist Jose Kavi for excellence in journalism, activist Sr Robancy Helen for best reportage on Dalit issues and senior journalist and author Joseph Gathia for contribution to Hindi Literature. Asianet News Managing Editor Manoj K Das and Maharaja’s College former principal Dr Mary Matilda will offer felicitations.

കൊച്ചി: ഇന്ത്യന്‍ കാത്തലിക് പ്രസ്സ് അസ്സോസ്സിയേഷന്‍റെ (ICPA ) വജ്രജൂബിലി ആഘോഷങ്ങളും, ദേശീയ കണ്‍വെന്‍ഷനും പുരസ്ക്കാരസമര്‍പ്പണവും, 22 മുതല്‍ 25 വരെ കച്ചേരിപ്പടി ആശീര്‍ഭവനില്‍ നടക്കും. സമ്മര്‍ദ്ദങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടയിലും സത്യം പറയുകയെന്ന ദൗത്യം എന്നതാണ് ഇക്കൊല്ലത്തെ കണ്‍വെന്‍ഷന്‍റെ വിചിന്തന വിഷയം.

ദേശീയ കണ്‍വെന്‍ഷനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് നടക്കുന്ന പുരസ്ക്കാര സമര്‍പ്പണ സമ്മേളനം ജസ്റ്റിസ് സുനില്‍ തോമസ് (ജൂഡീഷ്യല്‍ മെമ്പര്‍ CAT) ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്യും. ഏഷ്യനെറ്റ് മാനേജിംഗ് എഡിറ്റര്‍ മനോജ് കെ. ദാസ്, എറണാകുളം മഹാരാജാസ് കോളേജ് മുന്‍ പ്രിന്‍സിപ്പല്‍ മേരി മെറ്റില്‍ഡ തുടങ്ങിയവര്‍ ആശംസ നേരും.
ദലിത് /പിന്നോക്ക വിഭാഗങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള മികച്ച റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടിംഗിന് സിസ്റ്റര്‍ റൊബാന്‍സി ഹെലന്‍,ഹിന്ദി സാഹിത്യത്തിനും ഹിന്ദി മാധ്യമ മേഖലയ്ക്കും നല്‍കിയ സംഭാവനകള്‍ക്ക് ജോസഫ് ഗത്തിയ, ധീരോദാത്തവും, നിരന്തരവും മാതൃകാപരവുമായ മാധ്യമപ്രവര്‍ത്തക മികവിന് ജോസ് കവി എന്നിവരാണ് പുരസ്ക്കാരങ്ങള്‍ ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങുക.
ചെറിയ വാര്‍ത്ത കത്തുകള്‍ മുതല്‍ ദിനപത്രങ്ങള്‍ വരെ അയ്യായിരത്തോളം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണങ്ങള്‍ ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ കത്തോലിക്ക സഭയ്ക്കുണ്ടെന്നാണ് കണക്ക്. ICPA – യുടെ ചരിത്രത്തില്‍ ഇതു മൂന്നാം തവണയാണ് കൊച്ചിയില്‍ പ്ലീനറി സമ്മേളനവും ദേശീയ കണ്‍വെന്‍ഷനും നടക്കുക.
